From April 24 to 25, 2014, an official delegation of local government executives from Africa shall embark on a mission to Europe. The primary goal shall be to visit the Republic of Italy to observe the operations and services of the local governments in the country. The destination is the Municipality of Milan.
The local government officials would have the opportunity of meeting with local business people in Milan, with a view to forming political and economic relations with the hosts. The Delegation to Italy will entail a visit to the Milan City Council and a courtesy call on Mr. Giuliano Pisapia, the Mayor of Milan.
The theme of this event is: Studying the Political and Economic Structures.
Program of Events
a) Workshop: Conference room meetings to generate plans, analyses and designs to support organizational efforts of the local government councils.
b) Visitation: Study tour of the Milan City Council.
c) Networking: Interactions with government officials and business people in Milan.
City of Milan
Milan is the second-largest city in Italy and the capital of Lombardy. The city proper has a population of about 1.35 million, while its urban area is the 5th largest in the EU and the largest in Italy with an estimated population of about 5.2 million. The legislative body of the municipality is the City Council (Consiglio Comunale), which is composed by 48 councillors elected every five years with a proportional system, contextually to the mayoral elections. The executive body is the City Committee (Giunta Comunale), composed by 16 assessors, nominated and presided over by a directly elected Mayor.
Registered participants who require travel visas for this purpose shall be assisted. Letters of Invitation shall be provided and the visas will be applied for at the VFS Global Office in Abuja or Lagos. Most applicants will not be interviewed, so the approval is based primarily on assessment of documentation. The volume and strength of the documents will go a long way in determining the success of the application. Visa applicants are required to provide:
- Passport and Copies of Previous Visas
- Passport Photographs (to be taken at VFS for N1,500)
- Letter of Introduction (from employer)
- Bank Statements (for 6 months)
- Letter of Employment and Pay Slips (if employed)
- Certificate of Return (if available)
- Tax Clearance Certificate
- Proof of Real State (if they have any)
- Documents attesting the Applicant’s Professional Status (if applicable)
