From May 14 to 15, 2014 the Workshop for Wives of Legislators will hold at The George Washington University Inn, 824 New Hampshire Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20037, USA. This program is designed for spouses of members of the Nigerian State Assemblies, House of Representatives and the Senate.
Spouses of legislators serving in state/national office shall be given the lifeline and resources they need to connect with others living in the political setting. It is a forum to link up, encourage and equip each other, as they navigate through the peaks and valleys of political life together.
Life in politics is not an easy chapter to contend with. It is a weighty and often invasive creature that significantly impacts the family’s life and livelihood. When a family chooses to enter the political life, they also acknowledge that they are subjecting themselves to incredible public criticism and scrutiny. The “normal” life, as they knew it, ceases to exist the moment the hat is tossed into the election ring.
Despite the challenges and personal cost, most legislative families will view public office as an incredible opportunity to serve their country. Through this workshop, they will learn the following:
A) It is not at all about personal and political gain.
B) It is about being a part of something greater than themselves.
C) It is about leaving a fingerprint of legacy for the benefit of the communities they serve.
D) It is about stepping up to the plate and sacrificing personal comforts to vigorously preserve and protect the freedoms we enjoy in our nation.
